Re: New start and Climax enginespec trouble.

Thanks Curtis, I didn't think of that (Trainz caches in mysterious ways). The values provided in Bill's spreadsheet don't seem to accurately model the tractive effort of the Climax well. I think I have to set it up as a 4 cylinder locomotive (8 power strokes per revolution). Also, the boiler pressur...

Re: New start and Climax enginespec trouble.

Hi Curtis, I've tried using Bill's spreadsheet to formulate an enginespec, but no matter what I try I cannot get the locomotive to build steam past 4 psi. I am using the PB15 interior, I have also referenced the PB15 enginespec to the Climax with no avail, it still sticks at 4 psi. I have added wate...

New start and Climax enginespec trouble.

Hi all, I've decided to start anew. I won't be revisiting the Cass #5 or Class C Climax projects or any other previous projects I began as I find the methods I used then outmoded. As such I've started a new set of locomotives, the first of which being a Class B Climax of 36" gauge: http://i28.p...

Re: Wooden Rail Project

Also be aware that they crawled along at a VERY slow pace. The idea for a pole road (not a squared wooden railroad) was that one was able to actually get the logs to the milling site, not to get them there quickly. Often pole roads functioned without rolling stock, save for the engine, and would dra...

Re: Wooden Rail Project

Hi guys,

Here's a mini update. Rick reminded me that I needed to make some pole road trackage, here's a preview:

Re: Best texture and shader for TRS lighting?

Blender's UV coordinates do translate if you convert using Wavefront format. The problem, though, is that Blender's Smart UV Unwrap system creates havoc for texture bakes, with a fairly unmodifiable image as a result.

Anyhow, I'll do some more 'esperimenting.

Re: Best texture and shader for TRS lighting?

Curtis, The one issue with occlusion maps is that, while I can create them in Blender, it's at a cost of also having to texture it in Blender, which creates a UV map chaos once in Gmax. Also, Ambient Occlusion is usually registered as negative light, and since the loco's I'm working with are painted...

Re: Best texture and shader for TRS lighting?

On TrainZone there is a radically different older version, which is 90% inaccurate. I modified, as seen in the above pictures, to have cleaner, more accurate textures, offset boiler, length adjustments, etc etc. I plan on many variations of my fixed model, ranging from 36ng Class A, B, and C, and St...

Re: Best texture and shader for TRS lighting?

Thanks for the suggestion Ben.

Incase anyone is interested, the black locomotive in question is a texture and mesh update to my Class A loco.

Best texture and shader for TRS lighting?

Hi guys, Maybe someone here can help me with this, perhaps Ben. I'm very obsessive compulsive about locomotive textures, especially textures for locomotives painted black. I'm having trouble getting textures to stand out against the poor backlighting in TRS. I've tried a lot of things, adding blurre...

Re: I just got back from Cass, W.V.

Rick,

Very nice vids so far. Love the cab shots. I'd make #11 for TRS, but it requires a lot of figgiting with alignments, and without drawings, it's even harder. :|

Wooden Rail Project

Hi all, I thought I'd start a thread for my ongoing wood rail project. Basically, my idea is to make locos, stock, trackage, trestle, and trackside objects for a wooden rail service, used in logging of course. First off, I've gotten a wood rail loco in Trainz. It's based off the Madera Sugarpine 0-4...

While your away then I'll do pole trackage and wood rail trackage. That way we can knock out 2 at a time. :P
