They're bringing prosperity to the west, but also civilization. Civilization is pretty much the opposite of a cowboy (as portrayed in the movies). AFAIK, real cowboys didn't mind railroads. They actually liked them. Riding a day in a drover's caboose beats riding a week on a horse. Of course, the de...

They didn't use the Durango & Silverton (the yellow train you mentioned). It was filmed somewhere in New Mexico, but I'm not sure where. The motive power and rolling stock is from the Reader Railroad. The locomotives used were #2 a 2-6-0 and #7 a 2-6-2. Page on equipment being readied for moveme...

I like that color much better. I also found an answer to my earlier question about the Southern Railway's narrow gauge lines. There was indeed a caboose, number X32. (there might have been more, but that one was the only one in 1917) By the number series, it might have been a four wheel bobber. In c...

I wonder, could the ends of the cupola be made to match the main body color, or would that change the color of the doors and window frames? Also, the main body color seems too light. Try making it a bit darker, closer to this: light slightly darker When I think of "caboose red" I generally...

Well, if there aren't many pictures, nobody can prove that I'm wrong! But, if you don't mind looking I would like to see whatever there might be picturewise from the era. The only one I've seen is the one on the top left of this page. That's where the idea of the sheet metal pilot is from. It ...

Equipment donation. I don't think it has been moved to our site, and I haven't heard any word as to when it might be. Red River & Gulf 104 was officially donated to us on monday. This engine is known by most as the General II. My project will be to make a model of it, of course. (until it gets m...

We'll still be here when you get back. Who knows, maybe I'll actually get around to releasing something by then!
(probably not, I got a new project thanks to a recent donation to the museum)

Edwin Alexander's Civil War Railroads and Models is intended to show practice during the war, which was the same as it had been from the late 1840s. Track, buildings, locomotives, rolling stock are all shown. Drawings and photos. Drawings included (that I remember) A dozen or so 4-4-0s (including Te...

For '04 go here and download Vintage_Car_Traffic.cdp. For '06 try downloading KUID:203201:16 from the DLS. That will add a new region in the layout selection screen. Just pick that region when you start a layout and you will have 1930s traffic.

I don't think he has any plans to make rolling stock. He is building it as it appeared post war and in standard gauge. (as it looked from the 1890s to the present day, sans oil tank) I might ask if he'll let me kitbash a civil war era version out of it when he finishes. EDIT: How timely. He's posted...

I'm no route builder, but you can sign me up as a general rail equipment builder. I have a nice old book on railroads in the Civil War with tons of plans of rail equipment in it. It also has plans of typical buildings from the era, so I could build those as well. Now, I can finally have a good reaso...

Welcome! Do you have a photo of the Gasconade 4-4-0 you mentioned? If it is anything like the V&T 4-4-0s, I could make a model of it without too much hassle.

That's actually a part of the reason I stopped work on the depots. I wanted to add baggage and mail capabilities to them, in addition to passenger. But, at the time my scripting abilities were non existant. The situation is different now, but I'd be interested in seeing what you have. (no sense in w...

Thank you for the praise.

I have not released the assorted depots. It was my plan to make them industry interactive, but I got sidetracked and never returned to them. Whenever I finish them, you will find them on the DLS.
