Re: 1920s stuff

I originally had the texture resolution one step higher, but was worried that the file size might be too much for a single vehicle. I'm certainly open to reconsideration, though - and it looks like I have at least one vote for the higher resolution :)

1920s stuff

Here I'll post intermittent progress on 1920's scenery items that I'm making for my V&T route; which I have set in 1923. First up is a set of Mack dump trucks. I have two base versions - on with a load of dirt, and one without. There's a parked version of each, a static version with a driver, an...

Re: Canadian Pacific's Mountain Sub circa 1887

As an aside, it looks like the 'Onderdonk's Way' gallery is now gone; a casualty of a website upgrade. It's a shame; it had been there for 20 years (though they did change domains once in that time...) Looks like you found it just in time, Norm!

More progress. Need to figure out a good grunge texture, though. I was able to bake the procedural texture to a texture map, and export that to trainz, so (knock on wood) I should be able to get a decent load for these flat cars.....

Re: Union Pacific Flat Cars

I'm using Cycles - I started with this tutorial here, then added some random shading to the colors. I still want to play with it a bit, but it shows promise.

Playing with procedural texturing in Blender in order to revamp the cordwood load:

Re: Canadian Pacific's Mountain Sub circa 1887

There are notes that the locos were repainted before being shipped, though what that repainting means is open to interpretation. Based on the photo of the Yale, though, I suspect it was a full paint job rather than just slapping the new road name on the side of the tender :)

Re: Canadian Pacific's Mountain Sub circa 1887

So something like a rough roadbed with ties sitting on top?
My guess is that when the V&T shipped the locos to Onderdonk, they were all painted like the Yale above. Which is interesting, as I don't think the Storey originally came with paint like that.

Re: Old time procedural track

One of the nice things about the procedural track is the ability to mix and match components. I'm still waiting until they support stub switches before I do to much work with upgrading to procedural track - I have enough other things to work on.....
