30 ng re-skins by, yours truly...

Post by thegrindre »

Here's a first attempt at Curtis' 30 ng boxcar. Having a real problem finding the ladder so it's gotta look like this, sorry... (Where did you hide the ladder?)

Oh, btw, this version is before the random skins Curtis is using on his final version. I'm working with the last beta before those were applied. So, if anybody wants to use my skins, go for it. You have my permission in advance.

There is still a bit of work to do yet...

Any comments or criticisms are welcomed as always...

Looking great!
The ladders are mapped to the white lines:

It would be better for reskinning if they were rotated 90 degrees, and placed in the black section of the texture in the bottom right corner, wouldn't it?
Unfortunately, I just sent the cars to the DLS, but I can do a custom version for you with that mapping, if you'd like?

Super cool. I would like...

I guess it's easier for you to do it this way but it is very hard for us re-skinners to 'dig' out the areas for some of the parts. I personally like to skin each and every part. LOL

I did those antique automobiles awhile back and had a bear of a time finding all the little parts of the car. Some parts were nothing more then one pixel. Sheesh!

Thanks...

EDIT: It just hit me... The ladder is in the area of the cutout!!! All I got to do is find the dimensions of the cutout... (Kidkeys. LOL)

Well, on second thought, I don't think I can do it this way...
It appears that I would have to find the exact dimensions of the ladder to skin it properly. Hmmm...

Yup, probably about two. A reddish and a brownish I think will do. (I just can't seem to get into the greenish ones. Sorry, Ken.)

Hey Rick
Don't worry about the 'greenish' ones. Not everything has to be green except when it's new.
I also have a little surprise coming up real darn soon concerning a 30" caboose that may have all of you standing on your ears. I would love to give a picture right now, but cannot give away any secrets just yet.

I'm thinking it will be ready in another week. I will give you a hint -
It's based on one of the 24" Sandy River combines from Narrowgauge, but will be magnificently changed and have a couple of obvious details that no one has done.

That's all I can say right now.
Gotta go.

OK, guys, here's the beta as it stands so far.
Don't forget that it's the last beta version from Curtis before he posted it to the DLS WITHOUT the random textures he's using on that final version.

This is the version I'm 'playing' with in the game. I haven't found anything wrong with it to date... :D

The link, again, to my beta page... http://www.geocities.com/thegrindre/pag ... 4802432671

Have fun,

Very nice, Rick. Looks like you're really catching on with the wood textures. Save them in a file and some day you'll have an entire library to go to for reference. I'm beginning to do that myself from other textures I've collected.
I like the separation of the planks and the tones you have in the wood itself.
