'New' Link & Pin Couplers

Post by thegrindre »

Hi all,
This has been a WIP ever sense I started creating with 3DC and I think I've finely succeeded in making an alternative set of couplers.
These have been researched from the net and are a close representation of another make/brand other then Elvenor's.
Mine are a little older, a little more rugged, a little bit bigger and, a little rustier.
They are NOT a replacement but an alternative to what's already been done by the late Elvenor, may he rest in peace.
Please not that I believe I did find a replacement for Elvenor's couplers. Read down a few more posts.

For those of you who have issues about the link and pin being seen while the car is sitting idle, we're working on a script to resolve that issue so, bare with us while we work this thing out.

I hope you approve of and use the 'new' couplers.

Enjoy!

P.S. They are in beta but should be released very soon.

You know I always like your work and I know it will be researched properly to a proto-typical degree.
So, then our choice of "options" will be once the car is downloaded, we can choose your new kuid
that will replace the other one in the config file. ? Then, all the rest will have to be re-named
for our entire roster so that they will look more compatible.
( I got a feeling what your answer will be....)

Anyway, I'll probably make the change to my 30" roster if I know Norm is helping.

Let me repeat myself here,
They are NOT a replacement but an alternative to what's already been done by the late Elvenor, may he rest in peace.
I don't think it is possible to replace mine with Elvenor's although Norm is working on it, it may just be a mater of getting it through my thick skull but, I don't see where it can be done. These couplers are not the same dimensions as Elvenor's and the limfront and limback has to be adjusted accordingly, (My adjustment is approximately 2 and a half inches.), so, they are an alternate coupler system for future rolling stock.
Please not that I believe I did find a replacement for Elvenor's couplers. Read down a few more posts.

I see nothing wrong with two different couplers made by two different manufacturers, do you?

All my cars will be equipped with these and for those creators who want to use them, they are welcomed to do so.

As a mater of fact, let me put these up for beta testing for all to experiment with and you can get back to me here with your results.
I'll post a link in a bit...

NOTE: With a little help from Norm and Ken, I've come up with a replacement coupler for Elvenor's rear coupler. I'll get that coupler up on my beta page, too, so, hang on a minute and I'll explain that coupler to ya, too.

This whole thing is quite confusing so, to keep it simple, here is the rear coupler to replace Elvenor's rear coupler, the a.couplerB coupler in your config file. (My front, AcouplerA, already replaces the front coupler just fine, btw.)
I'm calling it, AcouplerEB, the 'E' stands for an Elvenor replacement.

Instructions;
If you wish to replace any of Elvenor's couplers with my couplers, it should work if you do this to the config file;
1. Use my AcouplerA kuid number in place of Elvenor's front coupler, (a.couplerA).
2. Use my AcouplerEB kuid number in place of Elvenor's rear coupler, (a.couplerB).

3. If you wish to use my couplers exclusively, then place my AcouplerA and AcouplerB's kuid number in the config file under, a.couplerA and a.couplerB accordingly. (These are designed for new rolling stock and comply with Auran standards and the CCG.)

Here's the link again;

So, far, everything is working out as planned.

Have fun!

Sounds like great news - now it's easier to design rolling stock with a mixture of couplers!

Rick is correct though, that there is a slight problem with a.limfront and back being 2 inches too far out. But I can live with it as these are good looking.

I believe I can adjust the axis point to bring these things closer to perfection if you want me to try that. That's why they're in beta...

Let me know if you want me to make a tweak attempt but you gotta tell me which way. Such as, 2" away or 2" closer to the car.
2" closer to the car will 'cramp' the coupler pocket but it may be what you want.

I haven't seen nor heard of any problems with these couplers and they are working beautifully for me sooooo,
I've moved them off my beta page and placed them onto a more appropriate page.

In other words, they have been officially released... I will wait a bit longer before placing them on the DLS and at TPR for now.

Have fun.

I see that a few of you are beginning to use these couplers and, since I haven't heard of any issues with them to date, I've officially released them to the DLS and the TPR.

Have fun and enjoy!
