Thanks, Curtis.

I've never claimed to be a route builder and only needed a small one to test my models on which usually turns into a small route that I never release. LOL

Here's a shot of a town I'm working on as my testing route grows a little bigger.

Got this idea from the late Elvanor. It's cheap company housing for the miners or loggers. I made these 4 variations.

Nice looking houses! I like the way they cast shadows on the ground; that's something that is sorely lacking in Trainz...

Those are DYNAMIC shadows and 'roll' with the sun. I just learned how to do them and now need to update all my other buildings. LOLOLOL
Yeah, Trainz could use a little help in this department.

I would like to notify everybody that I've opened a new web site. It's all MSTS but I do have plans to add the Trainz stuff someday, hopefuly...

Enjoy!

Hi guys,
I see it's been a few months since I've popped in over here. Glad to see everybody is still at it. Trainz is a lot of fun.

Does everyone know that a new train sim is in development? It's called, Open Rails or OR. It's going to use all MSTS content. The poly count doesn't matter much anymore on models you build and is basically designed to run on our newer PCs.
I missed the first beta release in January so can't give you an expert opinion on it yet but a newer beta release should be available within a few weeks, now.
But, from what I do understand, it runs about ten times better then MSTS ever did.
Here's a couple of official links for all to read. I think you can read 'em without signing in...
http://forums.trainsim.com/vbts/showthr ... open+rails
http://www.elvastower.com/forums/index. ... pen-rails/

Now, back on track...
Remember my 'T' Boiler Shay? Well, now that OR is just around the corner, I've decided to add a whole lot of minor details. (OR can handle a lot of polys, btw. No restrictions known of. I'm guessing your PC is the only restriction.)

and some Disconnects to go with it.

We can't forget about the end...

Thanks, Curtis.
Yup I'm still at it and with the new sim coming out, I'm really looking forward to the higher poly count detailed work I can get away with.

I found some more good info about Open Rails here; http://openrails.org/faq.htm

Yep, that's one to keep an eye on. Another is the project from the former MSTS2 team, now located at http://www.cascadegamefoundry.com/

Well, well, well, I'll certainly keep my eye on that one, too.

After seeing that Open Rails thing, I decided to go and blow the dust off my MSTS CD's! I still plan to use Trainz, though. I'm not making any routes for it(rather use Ts2010 for that) and am only going to use routes and engines others have made.

Hi all,
The Open Rails team have just released a somewhat working version for us all to try out. It is very limited in operation so don't expect much at this time but, you can load routes and run trains.

Here's a direct link to the download build;
http://www.openrails.org/home.html

Enjoy!

I think I might just have to try this out one day. It seems to be a good platform to run. I just hope the route builder is easier to use the MSTS was. thegrandre Could you give me a little info on the route builder?

The route builder is still a long ways off at this time. The OR team is concentrating on real world physics and getting all the locomotives and rolling stock from MSTS up and running right now.
Track has been layed, by an MSTS route you choose, and the trains are running on 'em quite well.
Number one priority was to get MSTS content into this new sim and have it work with our newer PC technology, and, so far, so good.
It's still at the 'baby' stage but growing nicely.
Personally, I'm quite impressed with what they've done to date. Wayne Campbell started this thing a year or so ago and it is now becoming a reality.
We do have a new Railroad Simulator just around the corner.

Enjoy!
