My MSTS models and stuff

Hi all,
Some of you know that I've quit Trainz and have gone back to MSTS. I'm in the process of converting my Trainz assets over to MSTS and thought I might share some of the cool things I'm doing.

Here is a couple of my logging cars with a load on 'em. MSTS doesn't load cars so you have to add 'em to make a seperate model.

Oh, here's a converted 28' boxcar into a bunk car for the loggers...

Have fun!

Looks nice, Rick - thanks for sharing!

One minor nit - looking at your second picture, it looks like the end texture (the rings) for one of the logs isn't quite centered.
Do you have random loads on those cars, or do you have to place different models?

Nice! I don't understand why you would want to go back to MSTS, but suit yourself!

@ Jay,
MSTS has always been my real love and I was only fooling around in Trainz till MSTS2 came along. Now that that is dead, I went back to MSTS.

@ Curtis,
Yeah, I noticed that too. I few imperfections I thought would be a nice touch. (Maybe not...)
Unfrotunately, there is no loading in MSTS. Each car has to be it's own model. I therefore have 3 models of each car, now. One empty and two with different loads on it.

Enjoy!

I got into Trainz about half a year after TRS2004 came out. At that time, I was fed up with MSTS's Route Editor, and other related headaches! With MSTS 2's miscarriage, it didn't seem like there would be any hope for me with MSTS, so I seriously began to look into Trainz! And, well, here I am! :)

How about having more sensible steam enginespecs and a proper 6 E-T brake system?
(sorry, couldn't resist)

Sorry, but the Route Editor takes the cake!

I also prefer the graphics in MSTS (as in the outside light coloring, and haze for distant objects).

You're good, Ben. That's a good point and is one of my reasons. I prefer the more realistic locomotive operations.

Yes, you're right, Jay, the route editor is a nightmare. It ain't for sissys, that's for sure. LOL But, then again, I'm not a route builder.

We've found a way to enlarge the limit of our texture files. We can now use texture files as big as 2048x2048 and maybe larger. No more 512x512 restrictions although, they still must be square.

Anyway, I'll post some of my cool stuff. I like to show off, too.

Later,

TRS texture files are 1024 x 1024, and I'm sure we can make them bigger! Thing with MSTS is that it's old! It may have been realistic back in 2001, but it hasn't been updated like Trainz has(at least not officially). Aside from the route editor, here are the other reasons I prefer Trainz:
-More realistic catenary, and I can make a layout with only some parts electrified, as opposed to MSTS's "all or nothing"
-Don't need to worry about the coupler compatibility
-Can operate multiple trains in a session
-Railyard is a nice touch!
-Session doesn't end when a train derails!

So, ya, I think I'll stick with Trainz! 8)

Both simulators have their advantages and disadvantages. It depends on what is important to people which sim better meets their needs. As this discusion has been rehashed many times over the years, let's just agree to disagree on what the better simulator is, and enjoy the work as presented. :)

Your reasons are all good, Jay. I'm not, in anyway, trying to convert anybody over to MSTS. I'm simply sharing, what I happen to be doing, with those who are interested.
You like Trainz and I like MSTS so let's have some fun...

Here's a couple of models I just finished tonight...

Looking good, Rick!
As an aside, I finally copied the last two Trainz tutorials of yours to the tutorials page.

Thanks, Curtis.
I've found another web host at a fraction of the price I've been paying so, will be re-building another web site in the near future. I'm not to sure if I'll re-host my old Trainz stuff or not yet but, will concider it.

Have fun!

Here's a shot of all the cars I've made or converted so far.
All this has been keeping me pretty busy.
From back to front;
1. Old Logging Caboose
2. The Cook's Car
3. The Bunk Car
4. The Mess Car
The rest are my Log Cars that you've already seen.
My Sand Car is right behind the tender.

I'm rather proud of my, Smitty's General Store and Post Office so, had to show it off, too;

Have fun, guys.
