Yosemite Valley Railroad water tower

Post by Pencil »

A new water tower, done mainly as a break from more complex scripting / locomotive projects:

For all versions of Trainz 2004 SP4 and newer.
Should be on the DLS in a couple of weeks, after testing is completed.

Curtis,
Looks great. I did have a little problem when I ran it in a layout.
I directed one of Ben's locos (the 2-6-2 30"er) to drive to it and got a script error "Industry track not found" which was strange as I ignored the error and drove manually to the tank and filled up!

Hi Curtis,

After a couple of years, I finally found some spare time to play with TS again...

Now, Bagby WT sends out this warning:

Warning: Required tag 'color' was missing and has been set to default.

Any idea what this could mean? I guess it has something to do with the smoke effects.

Btw, is there a way to fine-tune the engines behavior while being in session mode?
I don't have problem with the fact that it doesn't comes to a halt within a meter under the chute...but the actual behavior is kinda ridiculous

Hi Fons,

Thank you for the note! It appears I had fixed the errors, but had neglected to upload the fixed version. So, before I upload it to the DLS, would you like to take a look and see if this works for you?

As for altering an engine's behavior in surveyor, are you referring to the engine overshooting the spout, or stopping at the wrong place? I'm not sure of any methods to actually alter the engine, but you could salter the AI behavior:
You could add a slow speed limit near the tank, so the train isn't going as fast when it gets to the tank. That might help an overshoot problem. If it's just always stopping at the wrong place, you could try adding a track mark at the spot you want the engine to stop at, then use a 'driver to' command to drive to your track mark, then issue a load command.
Those are just ideas I've seen other people give; I'm not very familiar with the AI operation myself.

Thanks,
Curtis

Hi,

It's error free now.

Problem with AI is, the tender comes to a halt (+/- 5 feet) under the chute, then after a couple of seconds, it moves forward 2-3 yards and stops again there before the chute comes down watering the flowers :-)

Could that be due to the animation delay?
Seems not to be compatible with AI or session mode...

Speed limit is not an option due to other trains running through at 30 mph.
Track mark might work, though.

Thanks so far, Fons

Yeah, that's probably due to the animation delay. I'm not sure how to fix that. I'll keep playing with it, maybe something will turn up. I'll upload what I have, though, since it is an improvement.
