Portland and Western

As they say, 'And now for something completely different:'

After picking up "Railroads of Hillsboro", I decided to try my hand at reskinning Ben's SD9 model for some local locos.

First is No 1851, the "Hillsboro":

This one is now on the DLS.

Next up is No 1854, the "Beaverton":

I suspect this one will be on it's way to the DLS shortly.

There are two more SD9's on the PNWR roster. One is a chop hood; like Ben's SD16 model, and the other is a high hood unit still in the remains of SP paint. Someday; I'll do those as well; then start in on some of the GPs and SWs.

If nothing else, reskinning diesels is a nice change from building my own steam era stuff!

Those are GORGEOUS. I think I've gotta go to the DLS right now and get the one...Might there be any chance of an undec model with that occlusion to make the rest of our lives easier?

Sure; I'll post the .psd files shortly. The second unit is also now on the DLS.

I found some information on a couple more SD9s that used to be on the PNWR. They came from the Chicago and Illinois Midland in 1999, and were scrapped in 2004. I haven't found a photo of No. 1854 (1st) on the PNWR yet, so I'm assuming it was similar to No. 1855 (which there are a couple photos of on the PNWR).

Here's a WiP in TS12:

No dynamic brakes on these, and they have some interesting air filters...

Very good looking, Curtis. I like the green livery.

Thanks, Dan!

I've done a little touch up on the C&IM locos, and updated the wip shot (above).
Apparently, this loco never ran on the PNWR; it was just used as a parts engine. Its sister (1855, ex C&IM 54) ran for a year or two (1999-2001) before it was sidelined and scrapped in 2004.
1851 is no longer running, either. She was taken out of service with a broken crankshaft in 2009, and in 2011, her trucks went to No. 1501. She hasn't been scrapped yet, so there may still be hope...
I've also started on 1852 and 1853. 1853 was pulled out of service and scrapped in 2009, due to complications arising from a bent frame in 2005.

WIP of 1852 and 1853:

I've also gone back and added lights (and pseudo mars lights / gyro lights) to the two locos on the DLS, so expect some updates to those two as well.....

Found a couple of photos of the ex C&IM locos on the P&W, and so have updated the models and textures accordingly. It looks like the two locos may have had slightly different patch jobs. Above is the updated 1854 (1st) and here is the 1855:

A bit of an update to 1852:

Still *way* too clean, though :)

That looks amazing, Curtis. I'm looking forward to the new variety of shortline diesels you are putting into the game.

It's been a fun change :)

One more wip - this one's a SD7; No. 1501; 'Roseville'. 1853 started life as a SD7 also, but I guess she's been rebuilt enough that they are calling her a SD9 now.

Again, needs lots more rust, grunge, and patches....

Like 1853, this one lost her dynamics during one of the SP rebuilds.....

I've uploaded the current version of all 7 locos to http://www.carsoncarshops.com/files/PNWR_locos.cdp - any dependencies not included should be available on the DLS.
1851, both 1854's, and 1855 should be pretty much ready to upload to the DLS; the other 3 still have some work to do.

Saw 2301 'Sheridan' in downtown Hillsboro last week, so now I have to do a GP39-2. Finally, a locomotive younger than I am - though not by much ;-)

Starting from Auran's old GP38-2 mesh. Not sure why, as I think I've moved every vertex on the thing at least twice now :)

Likely won't be done for a *very* long time, though.....
