Its been a while, but as I recall the process was:

Export the mesh with the MS FS9 exporter. Use a program called MDLCommander to save the file as a .x (done automatically). Open the .x in 3d Canvas. All textures, bones, animations will still be intact.
This process is described better here.

One unknown: the availablity of the FS9 exporter if you don't own a copy of the sim.

Rick's mention of MSTS made me think about TrainSimModeler, which I own, so I went to TurboSquid which directed me here:
http://www.vmbollig.de/msts/tut_en/inst ... ation.html. Unfortunately the link for the TrainSim gamepack came up with nothing usable. When I get time, guess I'll have to do more searching.

Rick, was that your watertank that I downloaded. That was great.

Norm,
The elongated one? Had the wet wood effect that looked like the water level was about 1/3 or so high? Gray wooden skeletal stand with a nice brown wooden tank? From the 3d trains forum?
You would have to have gotten it from my old web site. I announced that I was fed up with MSTS and left my site up for about a month and offered everyone to get what they wanted 'cause I was through.

Ring any bells???

Yup, that was one of my best assets. I loved that tank. I believe I called it, 'The Water Tower'.

Geeeee, if you have it, zip it up and send it to me if you don't mind. I used my initials on most of my stuff so it may have RAH in front of the name.
ie: RAH The Water Tower... or, RAHTheWaterTower

I lost all my backups CDs so have nothing left of MSTS or TSM anymore.

I'd love to share that tank with everybody over here in Trainz.

He he, small world,
Rick

Nope, sorry Rick. The one I remember was round, had an animated spout. Not sure where I got it, might have been from the Donner Pass route. You wouldn't have been able to open the file to edit it anyway, would you? I think all my TSM stuff went with a laptop I gave away 2 years ago.

Ya, the .dst format. I'd need all the other files, too, though. Textures and such.

I'm dying to try it. Just got to get my hands on an MSTS asset, is all.

He, he, he. I just received my water tower and have it loaded in 3DC, now.
Not sure what is involved in getting it into Trainz, yet but, hold on to your seats... We're about to get us a 'new' water tank for narrow gauge.
He, he, he...
