Re: Experimentation with automagic ground textures
Curtis, Finally got a chance to open the file. What a blurry mess and it's fantastic! This will absolutely help on locating the overall vegetation, dune, forest, roads, and you name it textures! Most of the current roads show up which fortunately were located darned close to or on historic roads. It...

Re: Experimentation with automagic ground textures
Curtis, Saw that "Skectch-Up to Trainz a couple weeks ago. Loaded it into Sketch-Up but it still requires configuration which I've not explored yet. One thing I will also need to deal with will be proper skinning of the models and presumably lower res. versions for distant viewing and processor...

Re: Experimentation with automagic ground textures
Curtis, Sure! I'm fairly certain I can rebuild what I need to fairly rapidly now. Everything south of Lime Kiln is fairly flat. The mountains are a bear but I know where the problem areas are and the grades I need to use to get through the switchbacks. I believe I have come up with a proceedure to g...

Re: Bodie & Benton Ground Breaking
Insomnia hit last night so another structure started...The Mono Mills Engine House. Basically this would be the primary engine house for the line, located down at Mono Mills which makes sense as the lumber activities were paramount for the line and weather during the winters wasn't nearly as bad as ...

Re: Bodie & Benton Ground Breaking
Curtis, Thanks for the heads-up on underwater components. So much for that effort to reduce poly-count....maybe. I just may do it anyway as it will have a huge impact on this rich model. Regarding Lime Kilm and modeling things semi conjecturally, I'm the same way with every modeling effort I've done...

Re: Bodie & Benton Ground Breaking
Did a little more work on grading the line between Lime Kiln and Switchback 2. I have to keep in mind that the maximum grad noted was 3.8%. It's a tough one accomodating both the DTM and ROW! Speaking of Lime Kiln: It was west of the spur about 3600 feet. There was a Wye and tail track to allow flat...

Re: Experimentation with automagic ground textures
I'd be very interested in this as well on the Bodie & Benton! 1) It'll help with general ground color and texture placement over broad regions. 2) The obvious time saver for all the distant landscaping that's visible. Driving across that dry lakebed (Mono Caldera) makes for vast and long sightli...

Re: Bodie & Benton Ground Breaking
The first steam boat on Mono Lake was "The Rocket". A little 35 footer that ended up being purchased by the railroad. Very little is known about her, the serial number, that it was built in San Francisco, operated on the Bay, was sold, disasembled and shipped to Mono, resold, and finally a...

Re: Bodie & Benton Ground Breaking
Started messing with the B&B files and right in the middle of relaying the track, adding sidings, and going nuts on reference material. I'm looking at recreating it right around 1880-1882 at the height of activity. Historically everything was in place, they were grading down to Benton, and the m...

Re: Bodie & Benton Ground Breaking
New here and to Trainz. Sorry to "bump" this one, I was just up at Bodie this weekend. FYI: The water tower fell down during the winter and is almost rebuilt. The Supervising Ranger also mentioned to me that they're looking at the possibility of a complete restoration of the Depot (subject...
